GTA VI Map Could Be 2.7x Bigger Than GTA V — Here's What We Know

Community mapping projects estimate the state of Leonida at 125 km² — nearly three times the size of Los Santos.

The Map Debate

One of the biggest questions surrounding GTA VI is the map size. Rockstar has been deliberately secretive, but the community has pieced together an impressive picture from trailers, leaks, and environmental clues.

Community Estimates

The GTA VI Mapping Project, a collaborative fan effort, has produced the most detailed estimate to date:

  • Total map area: Approximately 125 square kilometers
  • Compared to GTA V: Roughly 2.7 times bigger than Los Santos and Blaine County
  • Vice City alone appears to be the largest single city in any GTA game
  • What We Know for Sure

From official Rockstar sources and trailers:

  • The game is set in the state of Leonida (based on Florida)
  • Vice City is the main urban center — a neon-soaked reimagining of Miami
  • The map includes swamps, beaches, suburbs, rural areas, and keys (small islands)
  • There are hints of an Everglades-inspired wilderness area
  • Multiple smaller towns and settlements exist outside Vice City
  • The Rockstar Strategy

Unlike GTA V, where the map was leaked months before release, Rockstar has been teasing geography slowly through screenshots and promotional art. Each trailer has revealed new areas without showing the full picture.

    Why Bigger Isn't Always Better

What matters more than raw size is density. Red Dead Redemption 2 proved Rockstar can fill a massive map with meaningful content. If Leonida achieves that same density at 2.7x the scale, it could be the most impressive open world ever created.
