GTA VI Dev Accidentally Leaks Next-Gen Procedural Glass Physics

A Rockstar developer's LinkedIn profile revealed a "next-generation procedural breakable glass system" for vehicles and props in GTA VI.

The Accidental Reveal

On March 23, screenshots surfaced from a Rockstar Games developer's LinkedIn profile in which he detailed his work on a groundbreaking feature: a next-generation procedural breakable glass system for vehicles and props.

The developer described how he "took lead on the next generation procedural breakable glass system for vehicles and props" and handled "designing tools for production to capture in-game footage with extra details from our rendering systems."

The LinkedIn post has since been removed, but not before the community captured and analyzed it.

What Is Procedural Glass?

Unlike traditional games where glass breaking follows pre-designed animations, a procedural system generates outcomes in real time. This means:

  • Every bullet hole, crack, and shatter pattern is unique
  • Glass breaks differently based on impact angle, force, and weapon type
  • Vehicle windshields, shop windows, and building glass all react dynamically
  • Why This Is a Big Deal

This feature has massive open-world implications:

  • Immersion — No two shootouts will look the same
  • Interactivity — Players can interact with glass surfaces in ways that feel natural, not scripted
  • Next-gen showcase — This is the kind of detail that justifies the PS5/Xbox Series X hardware
  • The Bigger Picture

This leak hints that Rockstar is investing heavily in environmental interactivity — not just making a bigger map, but making every surface in that map feel alive. If glass physics are this detailed, imagine what they've done with water, vegetation, and destruction.
