GTA VI Trailer Record Dethroned by Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Spider-Man: Brand New Day hit 718 million views in 24 hours, smashing GTA VI Trailer 2's 475 million record.

The New Record Holder

It lasted less than a year. GTA VI Trailer 2's record of 475 million views in 24 hours — set in May 2025 — has been obliterated by the first trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which clocked 718.6 million views in its first day.

Spider-Man surpassed GTA 6's total in under 12 hours.

How Sony Did It

Sony took a fundamentally different approach to the trailer launch:

  • Spread the release across multiple platforms and creators simultaneously
  • Partnered with influencers who shared clips before the full video went live
  • Turned the release into a social media event rather than a single YouTube premiere
  • Rockstar's approach was far simpler by comparison — a single upload on their YouTube channel and social media accounts.

Does This Matter for GTA 6?

Not really. A movie trailer and a game trailer serve different audiences and purposes. GTA VI still holds the record for the most-watched video game trailer ever, and that's the record that matters for Rockstar.

More importantly, the upcoming Trailer 3 will have a different goal: showing actual gameplay. If Rockstar delivers even 30 seconds of real gameplay footage, the view count conversation becomes irrelevant.

    Spider-Man: Brand New Day

The film is scheduled to hit cinemas on July 31, 2026, and has already crossed 1 billion total views — faster than any movie trailer in history.
